In 1871, the British Parliament passed the notorious Criminal Tribes Act. Post-independence, the Act was repealed in 1950 but denotified, and nomadic communities continue to live on the margins of mainstream society. The Renke Commission (2005 – 2008) had taken out a detailed 2 volume report on the conditions of denotified, nomadic, and semi-nomadic communities, and given recommendations to the Government for improving conditions. This document is a Hindi translation of the detailed recommendations, useful for the affected people themselves.
